Current Weather Report

How It Works

Our weather tool is a web application that uses the OpenWeather API to retrieve real-time weather information. As you type the name of a city, the tool sends a request to the server and it answers the query by retrieving correct details of the current temperature, wind speed, and sky conditions that appear on your screen immediately.

1. User Request: Once you submit the name of a city, the script codes it and then requests the OpenWeather server.

2. JSON Parsing: This is the API that provides a JSON file with the latitude, longitude, temperature (in Kelvin), and weather codes.

3. Unit Conversion: To transform temperature in Kelvin to Celsius use:
$Celsius = Kelvin - 273.15$

4. Asset Mapping: The weather conditions have their own unique code (e.g., '01d' in sunny weather). This tool gets this code and will show you the corresponding icon on your screen.

The tool is linked directly to global weather stations in real time so you always receive fresh and up to date weather information and not whatever is in any stored database.

Example Weather Report

Imagine that you type 'New York' in the weather tool. The tool will retrieve the most up-to-date information and give you a concise overview of the prevailing conditions, such as temperature, weather type, and speed of wind, and will help you know what the weather in the city is like within a minute.

  • Temp: 2°C (Winter Season)
  • Condition: Light Snow
  • Wind: 5.2 m/s

This example demonstrates that the tool displays weather information in a clear, easy to read format where you can quickly see the temperature, sky conditions and the speed of wind in any city you are looking at.

Knowing Weather Conditions

Weather data provides you with the accurate planning of your day. Strong winds may make it feel colder than the actual temperature and this is called a wind chill effect. You can also choose to keep an umbrella or heavy jacket, or make other appropriate decisions based on the weather conditions before going out by observing the weather conditions.

Important Disclaimer

*Note: This data is obtained using the OpenWeather API. Sometimes the local micro-climates can result in a minor variation of 1-2 degrees. Commercial applications should use information directly available at weather stations whose information is known to be accurate and reliable to ensure that the data is correct and accurate. It is important to always keep in mind local variations when planning using this tool.

About Snow Day Calculator

Snow Day Calculator is a smart projection site that is aimed at students, parents, and schools who would like to know the chance of having a snow day in a fast and precise manner. It provides accurate and understandable predictions on any place with the help of advanced weather analytics and machine learning.

Snow Day Prediction Results

Once you enter your location, the Snow Day Calculator will provide a prediction as a percentage — showing clearly how likely it is that you’ll have a snow day. The percentage is broken into easy-to-understand categories, so you can see at a glance what to expect:

Prediction % (Chance) Label / Category What It Means (How Likely a Snow Day is) What You Should Do / Expect
0 % – 29 % Low Chance Snow/ice conditions are unlikely to disrupt school. Expect a normal school day. Keep normal plans.
30 % – 59 % Moderate Chance Mild to moderate snow or winter weather possible — delays may happen. Check weather updates. Be prepared for possible delays or early dismissals.
60 % – 79 % High Chance Snow or winter storms are very likely — conditions may force closure. Stay alert. Have backup plans for childcare/transportation.
80 % – 100 % Very High Chance Severe snow or dangerous winter weather expected — closure is probable. Prepare for a snow day. Await official school closure announcement.

Note: It is an estimate, not a guarantee. Last minute decisions on school closures are the prerogative of your local school authorities, and are subject to real weather conditions, road safety, and other considerations when the storm arrives.
